Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 1

A homebred for Swettenham Stud’s Adam Sangster, this stylish winner finished her spring campaign with a third in the Group I VRC Oaks.

Toronado (IRE) filly Queen Air was a short priced favourite for the 1300m maiden at Warrnambool on Wednesday following some promising runs in the spring that saw her finish fourth in a pair of Group II races before her third in the Oaks behind She’s Extreme.

Well primed for her return by Lindsey Smith, Queen Air was set an easy task dropping back to maiden grade and duly saluted as you would expect.

She kicked well clear turning for home and was eased down by Jarrod Fry on the line to win by two lengths.

Queen Air will take confidence from the win and will no doubt be headed back to Black Type races.

Bred by Adam Sangster and retained to race in partnership, Queen Air is the first foal of Rain Cloud, an unraced half-sister by Domesday to Group III winner Shared Reflections.

Rain Cloud has a yearling filly by I Am Immortal and a colt foal by the same sire and was then covered by Toronado again last spring.
