Williamsburg shares sell for $95,000 each

Media Release - Tuesday January 31

Two 5% shares in G1 prospect Williamsburg (Snitzel x Fenway) have today sold on Inglis Digital for $95,000 each.

The shares were offered in a bespoke online auction which generated significant interest from a wide range of prospective buyers.

The two winning bidders were Chris Lawlor of International Animal Health and Merv Wood.

Lawlor and Wood will get to see their latest acquisition race on Saturday when Williamsburg – a three-time Stakes winner already – contests the G3 Eskimo Prince Stakes at Randwick.

“I just thought he was a great option, he’s out of a Group 1-winning mare, he’s by Snitzel, his second dam is by Zabeel and his third dam Joie Denise is by Danehill. How do you say no to that combination?’’ Lawlor said.

“The price values the horse at around $2m which I think is very much on the money and for a proven horse who we know can handle wet tracks if need be, with the autumn carnival basically upon us it’s a nice position to be in.

“I’ve bought on Inglis Digital before and as always, today I found it very easy to use, it’s such an easy way of doing things, you can sit in your office and click a couple of buttons and next thing you’ve got yourself another horse!’’

Wood described today’s Williamsburg purchase as “a great decision’’.

“I convinced myself, I’ve been following this horse for a little while now and I think he’s great, I think [co-trainer] Gerald Ryan is great and I’m very excited to have another proven Snitzel colt,’’ Wood said.

“I buy a few on Inglis Digital but I sell a lot. Comparing it to other sites and seeing how many people use Inglis Digital compared to X,Y and Z site, it’s a non-contest really. Ultimately it’s just a much better system with Inglis Digital, more buyers, better prices, it just works.’

Williamsburg joins the likes of Private Eye, Callsign Mav, Mustajeer, The Astrologist, Taikomochi etc as Stakes winners who have had shares sell through the Inglis Digital platform.

The next regular Inglis Digital auction – the February (Early) Sale – opens for bidding this coming Friday and closes the following Wednesday, February 8.

Entries for the sale will remain open until midnight tomorrow (Wed Feb 1).
