Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 30

The big guns went around in the opening heat at the Warwick Farm trials on Monday with Nature Strip stretching his legs for a win against fellow Group I winners Fireburn, September Run, Zaaki (GB), Private Rye, Durston (GB) and In Secret, while there were also six heats for the juveniles.

The Lindsay Park trained Harry Angel (IRE) colt Arkansaw Kid won the Inglis Banner in the spring and is in town for the $2million Inglis Millennium on February 11. He looked in great shape cruising home to win by a length and a half.

Sledmere Stud will offer the full sister to Arkansaw Kid at Inglis Classic as Lot 428.

Full sister to Arkansaw Kid to be offered at Inglis Classic.

The quickest 2YO winner was the Gary Portelli trained Written By filly Lady Jezam, who found herself in a very strong heat and she scored by the best part of a length over Facile and Lazzago, who were both in second gear.

Facile was a close second in the Inglis Nursery and Lazzago won on debut at Randwick with both fillies looking to be in super order coming out of this trial.

Lady Jezam was having her second trial, but first this year and is a homebred for the McDonnell family and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Frankie Pinot.

We had two trial winners that were both winning at their first public appearance and they are also closely related and both have siblings in Inglis Easter.

Maurice (Jpn) filly Saikono looked to have plenty of potential, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly scooting clear to win by more than two lengths with Inglis Nursery winner Saltaire a late closing fourth. Also worth watching The Hawkesbury, a Frankel filly from champion mare More Joyous, that ran a nice third.

She was a $400,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Cloros Bloodstock, whose colours were carried to victory by the Gai Waterhouse trained Group I winning mares Coco Cobanna and In Joyment more than 20 years ago.

Saikono is the second foal of Group II winning Snitzel mare Teaspoon, whose third foal, a filly by Written Tycoon will be offered by Arrowfield at Inglis Easter as Lot 407.

The Annabel Neasham trained Shalaa (IRE) colt Resurrected did everything right to win his heat by a neck and he is from a three-quarter sister to Teaspoon, the dam of the previous winner.

Arrowfield Stud will offer his yearling half-sister by Written Tycoon from Group II placed Bacarella as Lot 34 at Inglis Easter.

Other 2YO winners were: Speedster (Pride of Dubai) and Tango Fever (More Than Ready (USA).
