Shamus Award's Shamino Mows Them Down in Durbridge

Mark Smith - Saturday January 28

Despite finishing second to the red-hot Jigsaw at his most recent start in the Listed Christmas Stakes at Sandown, Shamino went off an unloved $12 chance in Saturday’s Listed Durbridge Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville, much to the delight of the faithful that stuck solid.

Ridden by Jason Holder for Phillip Stokes, the 7yo son of Shamus Award came with a barnstorming finish from the tale of the field to defeat the 3yo Divine Prophet filly See You In Heaven by a neck with a further one and a quarter lengths back to Kemalpasa (Magnus), who was looking for his third win in the race.

It was the fourth stakes victory for Shamino advancing his record to eleven wins, four seconds, and four thirds from 46 starts, with earnings of $559,720.

A Brook family homebred, Shamino is the best of four winners from as many to race out of the very talented El Moxie mare Elumino, a 6-time winner in Melbourne for Peter Moody

Elumino died in 2020. Her final foal is an unraced 3yo Supido filly named Misludi, who is also in training with Phillip Stokes.
