Blue-blood Filly Breaks Maiden

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 24

She might only be the winner of a modest maiden race at Bathurst, but this filly may one day produce a million-dollar yearling.

Trained by John Sargent, three year-old Merchant Navy filly The Seven Seas was lining up for her seventh start in an 1100m maiden on Tuesday and broke the ice at last, scoring by two lengths as a short priced favourite.

The Seven Seas was a savvy Inglis Easter purchase for Mark Pilkington Bloodstock, snapped up from the Segenhoe draft for $280,000 to run for Seymour Bloodstock and partners.

The Seven Seas looks like a great Inglis Easter investment filly!

She becomes the sixth winner from terrific stakes-placed producer Elusive Wonder, whose best offspring are Champion 2YO Filly Away Game and stakes-winner Modern Wonder.

A multiple Group II winner of $3.7million, Away Game was purchased by Yulong last year at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $4million and is now in foal to Written Tycoon.

The Seven Seas is a half-sister to Away Game.

Three more half-sisters to The Seven Seas, Modern Wonder(Snitzel), Cocoa Doll (More Than Ready (USA) and Grasslands (Snitzel) all had yearlings sell for big sums at Magic Millions this year.

A colt by I Am Invincible from Modern Wonder sold for $700,000 to TFI/Annabel Neasham Racing/Dermot Farrington Bloodstock, a Snitzel colt from Cocoa Doll sold for $950,000 to Rosemont Alliance/Suman Hedge Bstock/Julian Blaxland Bstock/Anthony Freedman Racing/ARJB Racing and a Zoustar colt from Grasslands sold for $300,000 to Mulcaster Bloodstock/Chris Waller Racing Pty Ltd.

Two more half-sisters in Persistence (I Am Invincible) and Pippa Charlotte (Not a Single Doubt) are also at stud, the former produced a colt by King’s Legacy last spring and the latter has a colt by Written Tycoon.

This female family is being bred up to the hilt and given every opportunity to flourish, so it will be very interesting to see what this catalogue page looks like in a few years time.
