Juvenile Trial Watch - Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 23

There were some interesting juvenile heat winners at Randwick on Monday morning, one of them a Capitalist colt with Inglis Millennium aspirations.

The Michael Freedman trained colt Mexico has raced twice for a second in the Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley and a sixth in the $1million Golden Gift with the $2million Inglis Millennium on February 11 sure to be on his radar.

This was his second trial back and he won with ears pricked.

Sledmere Stud will offer a full sister to Mexico at Inglis Classic as Lot 656, so they will no doubt be hoping to see him come out and race well before she is sold.

Full sister to Mexico to be offered at Inglis Classic.

Another Capitalist colt showing talent at the trials is the John O’Shea trained Capital Heart, who made it two trial wins at his only starts when winning easily for Kerrin McEvoy.

A Capital Heart is a half-brother to three winners from a sister to stakes-winner Testamezzo.

This time last year baldy faced Deep Field colt Sweet Ride earned himself a start in the Golden Slipper and  the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained colt Bases Loaded is by the same sire and not dissimilar in appearance.

It was his third trial and second this time in and he travelled deep all the way and was given a good shake up to the line to win drawing away.

Bases Loaded is a half-brother to Group III placed Shebringzit from Passarelle, an unraced sibling to Group winners Silverstream, Speedy Natalie and stakes-winner Calanda.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Pierro filly Tu Qui Santuzza made an impression at her first public outing. She showed limited pace from the gate and was allowed to settle and find her feet, but when angled into the clear after straightening she let down with a big finish.

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds from the Coolmore draft, she runs in the colours of Mystery Downs in partnership with others including her breeder Go Bloodstock. Her full sister sold for $325,000 at Magic Millions to Belmont Bloodstock.

Tu Qui Santuzza is from Group II placed Savabeel mare Santuzza, a half-sister to stakes-winner Tukiyo from the family of champion racehorse and Group I sire Rock of Gibraltar, so pedigree would suggest this filly will be better at three and should handle a mile.
