David Hains, one of Australia’s leading racehorse owners and breeders, has died, aged 92.

David Hains has died at age 92.

The owner / breeder of Australian Horse of the Year and three-time Cox Plate winner Kingston Town, Hains also won the 1990 Melbourne Cup with Kingston Rule. The finance billionaire established Kingston Park Stud on the Mornington Peninsula in the early 1970s and also bred and raced champion fillies Rose of Kingston,  Spirit of Kingston as well as Lowan Star.

His daughter Cathy is the owner of Burnewang North Pastoral in Victoria and is a Group I breeder in her own right having produced outstanding Kiwi trained Group I winning juvenile On the Bubbles and last season’s Group I SAJC Goodwood Handicap winner Lombardo.

David Hains was also responsible for importing the Danish mare Love Song, whose descendants include world champion sprinter Black Caviar.
