Snitzel's Amur Goes Two for Two

Mark Smith - Saturday January 21

Just five runners in the All-Star Mile On Sale Now Hcp (1200m) for two-year-olds at Moonee Valley on Saturday, and a half-length covered the first three.

Plenty of encouragement for the connections of the placegetters as the only previous runner, Amur, kept his record perfect at two for two.

A Godolphin homebred son of Snitzel, Amur was off the bit chasing the impressive Maurice (JPN) debutant Some People Callme.

Damien Oliver stoked up Amur 600m and did not shirk his task to nail Some People Callme on the line.

The Phillip Stokes-trainer Squamosa filly, Meg’s Magic, ran up to her solid support with a fast-finishing third.

Trained by James Cummings, Amur made a winning debut over the same track and distance on Christmas Eve.

“His races have been spaced to plot a path for later in the autumn,” stable representative Sean Keogh said.

‘The feeling is that there is a lot left in the tank. Physically he is not quite there yet.”

Amur is the first foal of the Animal Kingdom mare Leopard, the lone non-winner from the first eight foals of Darley’s blue hen Essaouira (Exceed And Excel).

A half-sister to Astern, Alizee, and Tassort, Leopard has a yearling filly by Brazen Beau and foaled a filly by Dubawi’s champion son, Too Darn Hot (GB), on September 20.
