Yarraman Park Celebrate King of Sparta MM Sprint Victory

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 19

Yarraman Park bred, sold and co-owned King of Sparta captured the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas last year and was back for another big win at the Gold Coast on Thursday winning the $1million Magic Millions Sprint (1200m).

King Of Sparta was heavily backed from $6.50 into $4 that day and again provided a popular win this year, with the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained gelding scoring a 1-1/2-length win as $1.90 favourite in the $1 million event.

“He’s just got to win one of these races every year and he keeps ticking all the boxes for us,” Snowden said.

“He loves coming up here and being away and he loves the sunshine. God bless him.”

A $700,000 yearling purchase for China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and Starlight Racing from Yarraman Park at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, King of Sparta was gelded after just four runs and his overall record is now six wins from 19 starts with prizemoney topping $2.2million.

After being gelded he had a change of ownership and King Of Sparta is now raced by a syndicate headed by Yarraman Park and is the fourth foal, and best performer to date for Group III winning Holly Roman Emperor (IRE) mare Octavia.

She has a yearling and weanling colt by I Am Invincible and is back in foal to the champion sire again.

The win of King of Sparta will propel his sire I Am Invincible to the top of the Australian General Sires List overtaking Savabeel and he’s going to be tough to run down in the back end of the season.
