$900,000 for Half-Brother to Amelia’s Jewel

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 13

Beaten only once in seven starts, Group I winner Amelia’s Jewel is one of the most exciting three year-old fillies in the country and her half-brother by Darley first crop sire Blue Point (IRE) proved a showstopper at Magic Millions on Friday when selling for $900,000.

$900,000 Blue Point (IRE) colt from Bumbasina (IRE)

Consigned by Segenhoe on behalf of her breeder Peter Walsh of Amelia Park Racing and Breeding, the glamour colt from Bumbasina (IRE) was purchased by Rosemont Alliance/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Annabel Neasham Racing Pty Ltd.

Anthony Mithen of Rosemont Stud has been instrumental in what used to be the Victorian Stallion Alliance and has now morphed into the Rosemont Alliance.

“The Rosemont alliance we’re calling it this year because we’ve got too many non-Victorians in it,” he said.

“We’ve got people from all over the place, so we’ve rebranded it the Rosemont Alliance just not to confuse people.”

This stallion syndicate have already tasted success with stakes-winning colts Brereton and Millane and have high hopes for this year’s acquisitions.

“We loved him as a physical, we like the stallion and we had a long chat about him yesterday just from the point of view that it all made sense,” Mithen said.

“He’s a half-brother to probably the best horse in the country (Amelia’s Jewel), take out Anamoe maybe, and we thought, ‘how exciting will it be for our partners to be racing a horse with that sort of profile who looks as good as him by a stallion that was a freak that offers what we’re looking for – speed, speed, speed.

“We had him valued perhaps a little lower than that, but the more we spoke about him the more we said he’s worth more than what we’re thinking and we’re happy to pay that.

“It was a good collective chat with Ryan McEvoy, our vet Tom Brennan, Ted my brother, and we nutted it out and said let’s have a dash here.

“We brought Annabel (Neasham) in, we were aware that she liked the horse, and we’re the proud owner.”

Bumbasina went back to Europe last year for another mating with Amelia’s Jewel’s sire Siyouni.

The colt is the highest price so far at this sale for Darley shuttler Blue Point and the highest for all first season sires.
