First $1million Yearling for Extreme Choice

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 12

Newgate Farm’s Extreme Choice set a new sale ring benchmark for himself at Magic Millions on Thursday siring his first million dollar yearling with Kingstar Farm’s colt from Sweet Bouquet.

Bred and consigned by Kingstar Farm, he is the first foal of well related Sweet Bouquet and was purchased by Aramco Racing/Mick Price Racing & Breeding/Rick Connolly Bloodstock for $1million.

“We wanted a good son of Extreme Choice and I thought he was a good son. We had Henry Field sitting a ‘half-length’ off us for the whole bidding which makes them dearer but in Henry’s opinion and in our opinion he was the best Extreme Choice colt on the grounds,” said Mick Price.

“So probably happy to pay what we did in the context of these colts, but I thought he was a ripper.”

Price trained Extreme Choice to win two Group I races at two and three and has also tasted success with his stakes-winning son Extreme Warrior.

“I think he’s a lot like Extreme Warrior. He’s quite strong, a good healthy colt. He’s probably a stronger colt at this stage, but he’s just a nice horse and he’ll grow into a nice colt,”  he added.

Kingstar Farm are no strangers to success with Extreme Choice having bred and sold his Golden Slipper winning son Stay Inside.

Sweet Bouquet was purchased from the 2019 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $40,000 and is a winning half-sister by Dream Ahead (USA) to Group winners Santos, Melagrana and to the dam of Sebonack.

Sweet Bouquet produced a colt in December by Kingstar Farm’s young sire Time to Reign.

Extreme Choice covered just 44 mares last spring due to a late start to his covering season following a bout of colic, but is available for Northern Hemisphere time coverings in 2023 for breeders looking to think outside the square.
