$750,000 Colts for Darley Young Guns

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 11

First season Darley sires Blue Point (IRE) and Microphone made their presence felt on Wednesday both siring colts that sold for $750,000.

Newhaven Park had a great result with their Microphone colt from imported stakes-winner South of France (USA) that was secured by China Horse Club/Newgate/Go/Trilogy for $750,000.

He is the first foal of the mare, a fast stakes-winning juvenile by Quality Road, who was bought for them by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for $US150,000 at the 2019 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Henry Field has had a lot of success breeding with North American bred mares at Newgate and knows only too well the value of the pedigree.

“He’s out of a very good Quality Road mare and he was an absolute weapon of a physical specimen,” Field said.

“When I saw this horse for the first time at Newhaven Park last month I drove out of the farm and I couldn’t stop thinking about him and when I got here and saw him he’d only improved.

“There weren’t may better animals on the complex than that colt.

“We’ve had a lot of luck buying off Newhaven Park, we bought Aim, who won a Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, we bought In The Congo who won a Golden Rose, and hopefully he can be another good one off that farm.”

South of France has a filly to follow by Trapeze Artist and was covered at Newgate last spring by Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside.

Bhima Thoroughbreds got a big result with their Blue Point half-brother to Group III winner Semillon from Sistonic sold for $750,000 to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock.

$750,000 Blue Point (IRE) colt from Sistonic.

“Just an athlete, really. Very athletic and covered the ground really well and got under himself. Ciaron loves it when they move their hind hocks and one leg is right under themselves. Just quality,” said Will Bourne, Bloodstock Manager for Ciaron Maher.

The star colt was bred by Robert Crabtree’s Dorrington Farm and comes from the prized Scandinavia family that has produced champions Black Caviar, All Too Hard and Ole Kirk.

Sistonic has a filly to follow by Capitalist and went back to Blue Point last spring.
