Autumn Trial Watch 3YOs

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 9

At the Randwick barrier trials on Monday morning we saw some classy juveniles including Golden Slipper favourite King’s Gambit, but a late 740m trial was a must watch for anyone with an interest in quality three year-old colts with autumn aspirations

The heat was won by Zoustar gelding Nominator, who hasn’t been seen since finishing fourth in the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes last autumn having missed the spring.

He ran a typical Gai and Adrian trial, hotting the ground running to lead all the way and win which was encouraging, but the beaten brigade held even more interest.

Free running Choisir gelding Kote looked bright and full of running to be second all the way and looks ready to pick up where he left off in the spring winning the Listed ATC Sir Brian Crowley Stakes.

Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile ambled into third place just ahead of the gorgeous Zou Tiger, who finished his spring with a third in the Group I ATC Golden Rose.

Also poking along back in the field was Group III VRC Carbine Club Stakes winner Perfect Thought, who was content to go through the motions at his first appearance since then, while Major Beel might be one to watch in longer races.

Golden Mile might have been the only Group I winner in the field right now, but come the end of autumn it might be a different story.
