Russian Revolution 3YO Wins Tasmanian Guineas

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 6

Stakes-placed at Randwick as a two year-old, talented Russian Revolution gelding Russian Roni has been on an upward spiral in recent months and made it three wins on the trot when scoring a brave victory in the Listed Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) at Hobart on Friday.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Russian Roni has been with the Melbourne stable since the spring and has made good progress with wins at Bendigo and Sandown earning him a crack at Black Type in Tasmania.

Ridden forward he led for home and despite being headed by the runner-up Bello Beau, Russian Roni fought back like a tiger to grab a neck win taking his record to four wins from eight starts with prizemoney just shy of $240,000.

A $150,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Sun Stud draft for Adrian Bott & Gai Waterhouse Racing / Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Russian Roni is the best of two winners for stakes-winning import Cadet Roni (USA).

Russian Roni as a yearling.

This female family has had some success in Australia this season producing stakes-winning juvenile El Padrino.

Cadet Roni was sold through Inglis Digital March (late) Sale last year for $30,000 to Wiregrass Pastoral and was covered last spring by Prince Fawaz after missing the previous year to Fastnet Rock.

Russian Roni is the third stakes-winner for Newgate Farm’s Russian Revolution, who has 23 entries for Magic Millions.
