Edinburgh Best Ever Magic Draft – Top Fillies

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 4

Ian Smith of Edinburgh Park is proud to present what he sees as his best ever draft for the 2023 Magic Millions and the consignment of 17 is packed with opportunity and today we’ll take a look at the girls.

Edinburgh Park have bred and sold some classy fillies over the years, but none better than multiple Group winning $1.2million earner Rubisaki, who proved a real superstar for Joe O’Neill‘s Prime Thoroughbreds.

She was purchased for $85,000 as a yearling and when sold at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale last year was snapped up by James Harron Bloodstock/ Morningside Park Stud for $1million and was covered last spring by Written Tycoon in her first year at stud.

The most expensive filly sold by Edinburgh Park at this sale last year is set to take her place in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic next week.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Exceed and Excel filly Summer Loving tuned up for her grand final with a dominant barrier trial win at the Gold Coast on December 29 following on from her two close third placings in the $1million ATC Golden Gift to Barber and the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO won by Sovereign Fund.

She has finished right with talented filly Infatuation (who won at Randwick on New Year’s Eve) on both occasions and can make her presence felt in the big one.

Lot 354

Her half-sister by Written Tycoon will be offered as Lot 354 and is every bit as nice as her older sibling. She is the third foal of G2 placed Sebring mare Serena Bay, whose only other foal to race is the Annabel Neasham trained three year-old West of Africa, who won at Warwick Farm after the catalogue went to print and has been placed at his last two starts in Brisbane.

The first filly to be offered by Edinburgh Park this year is Lot 7, a glorious girl by champion sire Zoustar from metro winning Fastnet Rock mare Jazette.

Lot 7

Bred on the same cross as G1 Flight Stakes winner Zougotcha and G3 Gimcrack Stakes winner Platinum Jubilee, she is the first foal of a full sister to G2 winner Cluster and daughter of SW Tarcoola Diamond with fourth dam being G1 Champagne Stakes winner I Like Diamonds.

Lot 373

Lot 373 is a flashy chestnut Written Tycoon filly from G3 placed Kittens Joy mare Quiet Kitten(USA), who comes from a US family that has been highly successful for Edinburgh Park producing not only Eleven Eleven, but also G2 winner Glenfiddich who is now at stud.

Lot 506

Edinburgh Park have had much success with good producing stakes-placed Anabaa (USA) mare Turnstiles, who has left Group placed multiple winners Revolving Door and Golden Spin among her three winners to date and her filly to be offered as Lot 506 will have plenty of admirers.

She is from the first crop of Darley’s three time Royal Ascot G1 winner and Champion European Sprinter Blue Point (IRE) and her dam is a sister to the dam of $1.4million earning multiple Group winner Vangelic.

Lot 882

A stylish So You Think grand-daughter of blue hen Pretty Penny offers residual value in spades. Lot 882 is a half-sister to G3 placed Spoils from stakes-placed Fortune of War, who is a sibling to Group winners Sertorius, Pretty Brazen, Dollar for Dollar, Pretty Amazing and Clifton Red.
