Edinburgh Best Ever Magic Draft – Top Colts

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 4

Ian Smith of Edinburgh Park is proud to present what he sees as his best ever draft for the 2023 Magic Millions and the consignment of 17 is packed with opportunity, so we’ll take a look at the colts first.

Branded for success with the IKS is a proven recipe for racetrack results with one of the flagship performers off the farm in recent years being ever consistent Fastnet Rock gelding Eleven Eleven, who will be looking to boost his prizemoney beyond $3million when he lines up for his third successive Magic Millions race day.

Second to Alligator Blood as a three year-old in  the Guineas, Eleven Eleven has won the $1million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) for the past two years in a row bringing great joy to his ownership group.

Trained by Greg Hickman, who purchased him at the Gold Coast in 2018 for $230,000, Eleven Eleven has eight wins and eight placings from 33 starts with more to come!

Among the colts to be offered by Edinburgh Park this year are two from the same family as Eleven Eleven.

Lot 290

Lot 290 is the three-quarter brother by Exceed and Excel to G1 placed G2 MVRC Stutt Stakes winner Glenfiddich, who is now at stud. He is the fifth foal from Nothin But a Dream (USA), a half-sister to the dam of Eleven Eleven.

Lot 590

Lot 590 is a cracking Zoustar colt from Alice’s Smart (USA), another winning half-sister to the dams of Glenfiddich and Eleven Eleven. She has made a pleasing start to her stud career leaving four winners headed by G3 placed Miss Wonderland and stakes-placed Spencer, but this is the nicest yearling she has produced.

Another colt by champion sire Zoustar is Lot 208, the second foal of stakes-winning Star Witness mare Our Crown Mistress from the family of Champion Miler Racing to Win and Everest winner Classique Legend.

Lot 208

The first foal from Our Crown Mistress was a stylish Snitzel colt that made $800,000 at this sale last year and has been named Moravia. Trained by Michael Freedman he showed nice ability when second at his first trial in December and is now having a short break.

Lot 443

For fans of So You Think it will be hard to go past Lot 443, a colt from Commands mare Sun Valley that is tall, dark and handsome as his pedigree would suggest. His dam is a half-sister to Group winners Tenley and Biscayne Bay with his fourth dam blue hen Skating, the grand-dam of Golden Slipper winner Vancouver.

Lot 636

Lot 636 is a big strong robust colt in the mould of Capitalist and is from another young Commands mare in Awasita, a five time metro winner from the family of G2 winner and G1 producing sire Magic Albert.

Lot 809

Lot 809 is a stunning colt from the first crop of G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Exceedance, who has certainly stamped him in style. He is the second foal of fast stakes-winning sprinter Dublin Lass, a daughter of champion New Zealand sire O’Reilly, whose daughters have produced 108 stakes-winners, 20 of them G1 winners!
