Pedigree Potential – Karaka 2023 – Nicks that Click

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Monday January 2

There have been some remarkable success stories over the years stemming from Australian bred stallions exported to New Zealand that have achieved great things with names like Centaine, Pins, Thorn Park and even current superstar Savabeel setting a high standard of success with young gun Proisir emerging to follow in their footsteps.

A full brother to Group I Caulfield Guineas winner Divine Prophet, Group I placed Group III winner Proisir stands at Rich Hill Stud and kicked off at a fee of $7,000.

Early success has seen his fee rise gradually up to $17,500 in 2022, but events that have unfolded this season will see the son of Choisir soar to a whole new level in 2023.

Proisir has sired five stakes-winners in New Zealand this season, three of them Group I winners - Dark Destroyer and his pair of 3YO Guineas winners Pier and Legarto - with exciting filly Prowess adding her name to the list when winning the Group II Auckland Guineas on New Year’s Day, read about her here.

Given the modest quality of the mares he covered in the early years, Proisir has a lot more to offer with 11 stakes-winners in total including his dual Group I winning mare Levante and a stakes-winner to runner strike rate of 5.2%.

Proisir has good representation at the NZB Yearling Sales with 19 entries for Book 1 and 30 for Book 2, so Australian buyers need to get a bit more knowledgeable about what makes a good Proisir!

Mares carrying Zabeel are showing good potential for Proisir with four of his stakes-winners including G1 winner Pier and G2 winner Prowess from mares with Zabeel blood, while his rising star Aussie trained mare Yonce is from a daughter of Zabeel. She has won six of seven starts for the Maher Eustace stable with her only unplaced run a fourth in the Group I ATC Queen of the Turf Stakes last year.

The following Proisir yearlings in Book 1 all carry Zabeel blood in some form on the dam side:

Lot 4 Colt Proisir x Za Star, by Zabeel –Blandford Lodge

Three-quarter sister-in-blood to G1 New Zealand Oaks place-getter Aspen Colorado from the family of multiple G1 winning fillies Lucia Valentina and Danzdanzdance.

Second foal of metro winning mare from the family of G3 winners Zanetta and Astimonti.

Lot 553 Colt Proisir x Stolen Dance, by Denman - Westbury Stud
