Newhaven Park will present a big draft of 37 at Magic Millions with first season sires expected to play a prominent role in their success, while a couple of glamour fillies filly by Zoustar and Capitalist loom as showstoppers.

The Kelly family have been breeding superior horses since their purchase of Newhaven Park at Boorowa in the 1920’s and the current star performers bred/ raised or sold on the farm are ensuring the future is every bit as bright as the past.

G1 Thousand Guineas winner Odeum has a three-quarter sister to be offered at the Gold Coast - image Grant Courtney.

Recent star performers raised/ bred or sold by Newhaven Park include Group I ATC Golden Rose winning colt In the Congo, dual Group I winner Shout the Bar and outstanding Group I winning 3YO filly Odeum, the star trio backed up by the likes of Kissonallforcheeks, The Inferno, Lavish Girl, He’s Xceptional, Tycoonist, Lunar Impact, Yao Dash, Robodira, The Harrovian, Xtravagant Star and Group I placed colt Brosnan.

The draft this year has a couple of obvious highlights and one of those is Lot 108, a Zoustar filly from Members Joy, that was bought at the Magic Millions Weanling Sale last year for $750,000 by Cloverfield Bloodstock making her the highest priced weanling sold in Australia in 2022.

Half-sister by Zoustar to G2 winner Pure Elation.

She is a half-sister to multiple Group II winner Pure Elation from stakes-winning Hussonet (USA) mare Members Joy, who has had three foals to race and all are winners.

Zoustar has gone from strength to strength in the latter part of 2022 siring European Champion 2YO Filly Lezoo and Darley Princess Series and Group I ATC Flight Stakes winner Zougotcha.

“We thought the Members Joy filly was a lovely weanling and she has had a trouble free prep and developed exactly as we would have hoped and gone right ahead,” said John Kelly.

“We couldn’t be happier with her.”

Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Odeum was a star of the Newhaven draft at Magic Millions in 2019 selling to Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for $420,000 and her three-quarter sister by Capitalist from Movie will be offered as Lot 155.

Stakes-placed Movie is also the dam of $1.1million earning stakes-winner Goodfella, so she has done a great job at stud so far and this filly can enhance her record further.

Three-quarter sister by Capitalist to G1 winner Odeum,

John Kelly is seeing many similarities between the filly and her three-quarter sister Odeum, who retired with earnings just shy of $1million and was covered by I Am Invincible last spring in her first season at stud.

“This filly is very much like Odeum. She has her personality, and an excellent constitution,” Kelly revealed.

“She’s been a lovely horse since the day she was born and we’re very excited to offer her to the market.”
