Top Breednet Stories of 2022

Tara Madgwick - Sunday January 1

It’s the start of a new year, so we thought we’d take a quick look back at what were some of the biggest stories on Breednet according to our audience numbers.

1/  Annabel Neasham and Lizzie Jelfs launch buying partnership for Magic Millions January 7

Annabel Neasham and Lizzie Jelfs were in the news at this time last year.

This is a topical one given it’s nearly a year ago when this partnership was launched at the Gold Coast. They purchased four yearlings – three fillies by Snitzel, Maurice (Jpn)  and Hellbent, plus a colt by Nicconi - and so far three have been named, but none have trialled yet, so watch this space!

2/ Australia’s Busiest Covering Sires for 2021 March 1

Capitalist is the sire of leading Magic Millions 2YO Classic contender Sovereign Fund.

Every year when Australian Studbook finalize covering stats for the previous season we publish those stats and it is invariably well read. Capitalist was the busiest sire covering 243 mares.

3/ Where The Top Mares Went in 2021 January 2

Winx was one of the mares mentioned in the story... the mating produced a much longed for filly foal by Pierro.

Mark Smith spent his holiday break researching the stud partners for G1 winning mares which proved a big hit with the audience.

4/ Heaven on Earth October 20

Rest in peace - Dragon.

The story of the passing of the oldest horse at Widden Stud, a nanny called Dragon, brought most readers to tears and me also, who wrote the story!

5/ What Are They Really Worth January 18

Captivare was the horse that sparked the story, he is now trained at Murwillumbah after being sold again on Inglis Digital in July for $37,500.

Story highlighting the vast difference in price of horses bought as yearlings and then re-sold sometimes less than a year later through Inglis Digital for a fraction of their yearling price.

6/ Leading Victorian Stud Blue Gum Farm sells to Trilogy Rural Investments Pty Ltd September 22

Change of ownership for iconic Victorian stud Blue Gum Farm.

As the heading suggests with Jason and Melanie Stenning of Trilogy Bloodstock and Racing continuing their expansion plans under the guidance of Sean Dingwall. They share in the ownership of leading Magic Millions 2YO Classic contender Sovereign Fund, who is one of 14 colts purchased by China Horse Club/ Newgate and Trilogy at MM last year.
