Capitalist Colt Sovereign Fund Spot On for Magic Millions 2YO Classic

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 31

The $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in two weeks time looks an open race with a very even field aiming up at the lucrative feature, but it’s hard to go past Sovereign Fund as the top contender after he toyed with his rivals at Doomben on New Year’s Eve.

Stepping up to 1200m at his second start, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained son of Capitalist made light work of the task for Jamie Kah.

With a small field of four engaged, Sovereign Fund had little more than a working gallop to win, quickening over the last 600m to come home in 33.14 seconds to win by three and a half lengths.

Sovereign Fund runs for a high-profile syndicate, including Newgate Farm, China Horse Club and Trilogy Racing, and was a $550,000 purchase from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

He’s already banked over $170,000 in winning his first two starts and that will be a drop in the ocean if he wins his grand final at the Gold Coast on January 14 and Jamie Kah was well pleased with his performance.

“I really liked how he had so much still under the bonnet.. would have been nice to see if he got tested today, but he’s got a really great attitude that will take him a long way,” Kah told Leah Kilner for Racing Queensland.

Bred by SF Bloodstock and partners, Sovereign Fund was foaled and raised at Newgate and is the second winner from as many to race from the talented Mossman mare Mossbeat, who placed in the Group III Summoned Stakes.

A big strong handsome chestnut, Sovereign Fund was the second most expensive yearling by Capitalist sold at the Gold Coast in 2022.

Sovereign Fund sold for $550,000 at Magic Millions.

Mossbeat was covered again last spring by Capitalist, who has 42 entries for Magic Millions and 39 for Inglis Classic.
