The Taranaki mare was on the road to retirement after being served in the spring, and the decision was made to bring down the curtain on her racing career following the Group One run.

“The track probably got too firm for her and she did pull up with the thumps afterwards,” trainer Allan Sharrock said.

“We made the decision to pull pin and she has done a good job. She is now out in the paddock and will be happy to be a mum.”

Sinarahma is the daughter of Group One-winning mare Shez Sinsational, whose last race was also the Zabeel Classic, when runner-up to Veyron a decade ago, following successive victories in the Gr.1 Spring Classic (2040m), Gr.3 Lindauer Stakes (2000m), and Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes (1600m).

Sinarahma’s last victory was also in the Cal Isuzu Stakes at Te Rapa earlier this month, adding to her previous eight victories, including the Gr.3 Rotorua Cup (2200m), Gr.3 Cuddle Stakes (1600m) and two editions of the Listed Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m).

One of her more memorable performances was her runner-up result to Melody Belle in the Gr.1 Thorndon Mile (1600m) after missing the jump by several lengths.

Sharrock is now looking forward to watching her progeny go through the sales ring in the coming years.

“She is a valuable broodmare and that page will look very good in the Book 1 catalogue. She is going to have some valuable foals I would say,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sharrock will head to Te Rapa on New Year’s Day with just the one runner – Sophmaze in the Gr.2 Elsdon Park Royal Stakes (2000m).

The daughter of Derryn has won two and placed in four of her eight starts to date, including victory in the Listed Castletown Stakes (1200m).

She ran third in the Gr.3 Eulogy Stakes (1600m) at Te Rapa earlier this month and Sharrock has been pleased with how she has come through the run.

“It is going to be firm enough for her. Her run in the Eulogy was good up there, she has raced twice at Te Rapa and raced well,” he said.

“Vinnie (Colgan, jockey) was impressed with her run the other day. You take the winner (Polygon) out and one more stride and she would have beaten the other filly (Librarsi), and wasn’t losing ground on the winner, so it will be an interesting race.”

Win, lose, or draw, Sharrock said Sophmaze will head to the spelling paddock after Sunday’s run.

“She deserves a crack and then I would say she would be out for the season,” Sharrock said. – NZ Racing Desk
