Skyman (GB) a Class Above in Bernborough Plate

Mark Smith - Saturday December 24

The Chris Waller-trained Skyman (GB) continues to be a grand money spinner for connections, adding a third stakes success in Saturday’s $200,000 Listed Bernborough Plate (1600m) at Doomben.

Ridden by Ryan Maloney, the 7yo son of Mukhadram came from the back of the field with a brilliant burst of acceleration to defeat Aramayo (Poet’s Voice) by one and three-quarter lengths with Seat Of Power (IRE) (Sea The Stars) a half-length back in third.

With his third stakes success, Skyman (GB) advances his record to eight in, six seconds, and three thirds from 34 starts with earnings of $757,926.

That’s a wonderful return on the 42,000gns shelled out by Go Racing at the 2019 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.

“Going through his replays, he has always shown a turn of foot,” Maloney said.

“When Willie Pike won on him at Randwick, he was caught in a pocket, and once he peeled off their heels, he showed the same turn of foot as today.”

“His class shone through.

The son of Group 1 Eclipse Stakes winner Mukhadram (Shamardal) is the best of three winners from six to race for the Dalakhani (IRE) mare Skyrider, a sister to Group III Milan Premio Chiusura winner Gothic Dance.
