Wootton Bassett's Allegedly (FR) Breaks His Maiden in Style

Mark Smith - Thursday December 22

European import Allegedly (FR) opened his winning account at his third Australian start over 1590m at Wangaratta on Thursday.

Ridden by Daniel Moor for Anthony and Sam Freedman, the son of Wootton Bassett (GB) tracked the pace set by Young Trella before taking command before the home turn.

Allegedly (FR) kept up a solid gallop to defeat Harlem Nic (Manhattan Rain) by three-quarters of a length, with Siasha Jewel (Reward For Effort) a head back in third.

"It panned out nicely' Moor said.

"Young Jett Stanley took it up at a reasonable tempo on a relatively inexperienced horse, and we had a beautiful run on his back.

"He probably hit the front sooner than I would have liked, but it was due to the competitive nature of the race, and nothing was travelling well at that point.

"He has taken some time to acclimatise, but he had some handy form heading into this."

Allegedly (FR) had placed twice at Pakenham since arriving from Europe, where he was placed at Ayr at his only run at two last year for Richard Fahey.

The son of Wootton Bassett was a 47,000gns purchase for Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock t the 2019 December Foal Sale before failing to make his reserve at the 2020 October Yearling Sale Book 1.

He is a half-brother to Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner The Black (Machiavellian) and Listed winner Besotted (Dutch Art) out of a half-sister to champion stallion Last Tycoon (IRE).

The first Australian crop of Coolmore shuttler Wootton Bassett (GB) hit the ground this spring, and he has been afforded every chance to succeed.

He has colts from Daysee Doom, Invincibella, Nakeeta Jane, Sunlight, Celebrity Queen and fillies out of Aloha, Fashions Afield, Hips Don't Lie, Mizzy, Rostova etc.
