Bring Me the Oaks

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 7
High Chaparral (IRE) filly Bring Me the Roses cast off maiden status with a powerhouse win in the Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington Saturday.

Stakes-placed in Adelaide twice from her only three previous starts, Bring Me the Roses (images Grant Courtney)  was facing a step up in class for this 1600 metre assignment, but relished the open spaces of Flemington to produce a huge finish.

The Tony McEvoy trained filly charged to the line for Luke Currie to win running away in an utterly dominant performance, defeating another daughter of High Chaparral in Hiyaam by more than two lengths.

"That was a massive win," said Luke Currie.

"The turn of foot she showed when she came out was unbelievable.

"She's had a little freshen up into this to be a lot sharper and she's really responded."

A homebred for Clairden Racing that was foaled and raised at Coolmore, Bring Me the Roses is entered for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and VRC Oaks.

She is a half-sister to Group III winner Face Value and is the ninth winner from nine to race from outstanding producer Freckled Face.

A slick metropolitan winner by Polish Patriot (USA), Freckled Face was retired from stud duties in 2015 and her last foal is a two year-old colt by So You Think.

Bring Me Roses is the 103rd stakes-winner for much missed former Coolmore stalwart High Chaparral, who later sired Ace High to win the Group I ATC Spring Champion Stakes.
