Tarzino Filly Miss Tarzy Makes Winning Debut

Mark Smith - Tuesday December 13

The decision to send the imported Green Tune mare Grise Leigh (FR) to Tarzino (NZ) is reaping dividends for Rosemont Stud as the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Miss Tarzy made a winning debut over 1500m at Mornington on Tuesday.

Ridden by Michael Dee, Miss Tarzy finished with a rush to defeat the experienced Alaskan Storm (Artie Schiller) by a short-neck, with  Shout Out Girl (Holler) two lengths back in third.

The lone first-starter and only 3yo in the field, Miss Tarzy is expected to spell with the Autumn in mind.

“I think the soft conditions suited her,” Dee said.

“She was well-placed by the team. I trialled her over 1400m at Flemington. She does not have a massive turn of foot, but she sustained a good gallop to the line.
“I think the further, the better for her.

“She will make a nice stayer in time. She is not there physically. Sam (Freedman) said she was going to the paddock. That is the best thing for her; hopefully, she will strengthen up a bit.”

Miss Tarzy is the third winner for Grise Leigh (FR), a €70,000 purchase for Belmont Bloodstock Agency at the 2012 Arqana November Breeding Stok Sale.

The daughter of Green Tune is a half-sister to Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner and Group 1 French Derby runner-up Morandi (Holy Roman Emperor).

Grise Leigh (FR) has a yearling sister to Miss Tarzy and was covered by Time Test (GB) last spring.

Westbury Stud’s Tarzino (Tavistock) has four catalogued for the Magic Millions, one at the Inglis Classic, five at the Inglis Premier, 29 in Book 1 and three in Book 2 at Karaka.
