Fastnet Rock Mare Sneaky Five Back to Best

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 10

Lightly raced Fastnet Rock mare Sneaky Five was a brilliant early stakes-winning juvenile and a Group III winner last year at three and looks set for more success this season after winning the Listed BRC Bribie Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Previously trained in Melbourne by the powerful Maher Eustace team, Sneaky Five looked a rising superstar when winning the $500,000 Inglis Banner and $1million ATC Golden Gift at her first two starts.

From only a handful of starts at three she won the Group III MRC Thoroughbred Club Stakes and was having her second start on Saturday for new trainer Tony Gollan.

Second at her first run for Gollan last month at the Sunshine Coast, Sneaky Five made amends for that loss with a tenacious head win under Ben Thompson.

“She was an obvious eye-catcher three weeks ago when she was first-up at the Sunshine Coast,” Thompson said.

“It was a day when there were nine races and seven of the winners sat either first or second and she came from out the back to just miss the winner.”

Sneaky Five was offered at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale by her breeder Mr Pan Sutong’s Goldin Farms and was snapped up by Rosemont Stud for $305,000, the so called ‘sneaky five’ last bid securing her purchase!

She has proven a great investment banking $1.1million from her four wins from nine starts.

Sneaky Five is a half-sister to stakes-winner Beautiful Mind and is the best of three winners  from Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Small Minds.

Small Minds was sold by Goldin Farms through the 2020 Inglis Digital November (late) Sale for $410,000 and produced a filly by So You Think for her current owners Rosemont Stud this spring.

Sneaky Five will be a lovely broodmare prospect when her racing days are done with Fastnet Rock mares already producing 78 stakes-winners worldwide.
