One to Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 10

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable unleashed an impressive debut winner on Friday night at Canterbury by Galileo’s champion son Highland Reel (IRE).

Three year-old filly Hi Dubai gave her rivals galloping lesson when powering clear to win the 1100m maiden by four lengths as favourite.

Hi Dubai runs for Dynamic Syndications and was a savvy $30,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Burke Bloodstock draft.

Hi Dubai was a bargain $30,000 Inglis Classic purchase.

She is the second foal and first winner for Eureka Dubai, an eight time winning daughter of Europe’s most expensive sire Dubawi from an Australian Black Type family featuring Group and stakes-winners such as Eureka Jewel, Spurred On and Golconda, the dam of Group II winner Marine One and stakes-winner Cannonball.

Hi Dubai combines the blood of champions sires Galileo and Dubawi, the pair figuring together in the pedigrees of 40 stakes-winners, eight of them Group I winners.

With his oldest progeny just three year-olds, Swettenham Stud shuttler Highland Reel has left a number of nice winners in Australia headed by stakes-winner High Approach.

He is set to continue his stud career in Japan in 2023.
