Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 30

Greg Eurell is a very good trainer when he gets a talented horse and the Toronado (IRE) filly he saddled to win at Geelong on Wednesday undoubtedly has more to offer.

Papillon Club was sent for a spell after finishing second don debut at Cranbourne back in July and was resuming in a competitive 1200m 3YO fillies maiden.

She made light work of the assignment under Craig Williams, opening up to win by three and a half lengths in a dominant display.

“She’s a lovely filly and I’m lucky the owners and Greg Eurell introduced me to her at Cranbourne and we trialled her on heavy ground and I thought she had a great attitude and we felt she would be quickening up better on top of the ground,” said Craig Williams.

“She had no favours today and was very dominant so she’s an exciting girl.”

A $70,000 Inglis Melbourne Gold Yearling purchase for her trainer from the Rosemont Stud draft, Papillon Club was bred by Tara Farm and is the third winner from Redoute’s Choice mare Butterfly Club, a half-sister to Japanese stakes-winner Admire Hokuto.

She looks a progressive type for Toronado, who has been covering a full book at Swettenham Stud at a fee of $88,000 this spring.
