Juvenile Trial Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 28

The big city stables sent a number of juveniles to trial at Hawkesbury on Monday and five heats included winners by first season sires The Autumn Sun and Trapeze Artist.

The Gary Portellii trained Trapeze Artist colt Flying Trapeze has already been to the races twice finishing fifth in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate and then seventh in the $1million Golden Gift beaten three lengths.

He looked sharp and professional winning his trial with authority and it’s interesting to note the horse he finished just in front of in the Golden Gift was Disneck, who became the first winner for Trapeze Artist when scoring at Rosehill last Saturday.

Flying Trapeze was an $85,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Widden Stud, who will offer his full sister at Magic Millions 2023 as Lot 749, so a win for this colt would certainly be timely.

Bjorn Baker puts the polish on well put together The Autumn Sun filly Cathay Bracelet, who was having her first barrier trial and travelled up nicely on the inside to score by a length over giant colt Crucible, who towered over his rivals.

A $160,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Sledmere Stud draft, Cathay Bracelet is a half-sister to stakes-placed Miss Madison from well-bred More Than Ready (USA) mare Kechika, a daughter of Group II WA Oaks winner Fatal Attraction.

Runner-up Crucible is a big boy like his sire Exosphere and is a sibling to stakes-winners Retrieve, Reparations and Abduction, his dam Hold to Ransom (USA) leaving eight winners so far and it’s hard not to think he can be number nine.

Other 2YO winners were: Luna Field (Deep Field), Crimson Sky (Outreach) and He’s All Style (Supido).
