Exciting Zoustar Colt Stamps Magic Millions Ticket

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 19

The $250,000 Magic Millions Ballarat 2YO Classic (1000m) on Saturday produced an ultra-impressive winner with Zoustar colt Sunsource making light of the testing conditions to charge home and win running away.

Easy in the market at 10-1, he began slowly for Daniel Moor, who allowed Sunsource the time to find his feet, but when shown clear ground and asked to work into the race after turning for home the colt produced an impressive change of gear.

Sunsource powered past his rivals to win by nearly two lengths over Pure Paradise, who chased home highly rated colt King’s Gambit when finishing second to him on debut in the Listed MRC Debutant Stakes last month.

“He was slow away and obviously you are watching your own horse, but you could see at the 600 (metres) he was coming up underneath Daniel and even though he was a fair way off them he was looking like he was going to let down,” said Trent Busuttin, who revealed the colt had shown good ability prior to his debut.

"He’s been very professional. He had three jump-outs and had been straight forward. He's done it good and we'll certainly pack our bags and get up there (Gold Coast), but there is those big flash Sydney colts. We won't get ahead of ourselves but we've got a runner in the race now."

Sunsource as a yearling.

A $370,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Busuttin Racing/Group 1 Bloodstock, Sunsource has banked nearly $140,000 for his win, which should assure him a start in the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast in January.

Busuttin will look to keep Sunsource up to the mark with at least one more run before his target race

"He'll definitely have one run, maybe two. He's a big gross colt. Obviously now he's in the race with the prize money that takes the pressure off,” he said.

“He can have a little let-up now, may be get down to the water walker, but he's got to have go around right-handed.”

Bred by Robert Anderson and foaled and raised at Widden, Sunsource is the second foal and second winner from Group III placed Sebring mare Patricia Dawn, a daughter of imported stakes-winner Summer Girlfriend (USA).

Sunsource is the second juvenile winner this season for Zoustar joining Group III ATC Gimcrack stakes winner Platinum Jubilee.
