Another Promising Metro Merchant Navy Winner

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 16

Talented Merchant Navy gelding High Blue Sea enjoyed a polished front running ride under Tim Clark to break his maiden at Rosehill on Wednesday in style.

Trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, High Blue Sea was fourth at Rosehill on debut back in June and then resumed for a good second at Kembla on November 1.

Ridden forward in this 1400m contest, he travelled well and skipped away to win by more than two lengths in a dominant display.

“He’s always shown us nice ability, it was just a matter of him putting it altogether as it’s taken him a while to furnish and get his mind right,” said Sterling Alexiou.

“Tim Clark is the best in the business at getting them out of the barriers and he put the race away after the first 150m and I was supremely confident after the first 200m.

“Hopefully he goes right on with it now.”

High Blue Sea was a $220,000 Inglis Classic purchase

A $220,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for George Moore Bloodstock / Team Moore Racing, he was a successful pinhook having been bought for $100,000 by Binalong Bloodstock from the Erinvale Thoroughbreds draft at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale.

High Blue Sea is the first winner for Bodhi Blue, a winning half-sister by Northern Meteor to Group III winner Punch On.

High Blue Sea adds to a growing list of metro winners for Coolmore based Merchant Navy, who has 11 entries for Magic Millions 2023.
