Unraced Exceed And Excel Filly Favourite for $1mil Golden Gift and Slipper Start

Craig Tompson - Friday November 4

The $1 million Golden Gift at Randwick this weekend will give the winner $580,000 along with a start in the Golden Slipper and it’s an unraced filly that is early favourite to kick her career off perfectly.

The market has four youngsters in single figure odds in the unraced Summer Loving and Disneck, along with the raced pair of Barber and Coincide.

The Waterhouse/Bott trained Summer Loving came up as the first emergency when the field was declared but with Thursday’s Flemington winner Charm Spirit coming out, she has gained a start and is early favourite, no doubt aided by the fact that Barber in gate 16 and Coincide in gate 13 are awkwardly drawn at what can be a treacherous 1100m start at Rosehill.

A brilliant trial winner leading into the race, Summer Loving is by Exceed And Excel out of Serena Bay, a Group Two placed daughter of Sebring which ironically won the Golden Gift herself in 2016 when it was worth $150,000.

She was a $425,000 yearling by from Magic Millions Gold Coast for her trainers from the draft of Edinburgh Park.

The Bjorn Baker trained Disneck by Trapeze Artist from the stakes winner US bred mare Lindisfarne.

Disneck

He was a $200,000 buy for Baker and Clarke Bloodstock from Gooree Park at the Inglis Classic Sale and also goes into his debut as a trial winner.

He is one of two runners for first season sire Trapeze Artist who also has Flying Trapeze, an impressive winner at the official 2YO trials before a battling 5th after showing speed in the Breeders Plate.
