Oaks Confirmed for She’s Extreme – Bred to Stay?

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 26

Newgate Farm’s Extreme Choice has achieved a lot in a short space of time but news that Anthony Cummings will start his star filly in the Group I VRC Oaks (2500m) has the potential to add a new string to his bow.

She’s Extreme won the Group I ATC Champagne Stakes (1600m) at two and was a strong closing third in the Group I ATC Spring Champion Stakes last Saturday behind Victoria Derby favourite Sharp ‘n’ Smart.

"She pulled up fine, Tommy (Berry) rode her this morning and was happy with her," Cummings told Racenet.

"We will travel her down on Sunday and she will stay at Flemington from there.

"She was strong through the line in the Spring Champion and if she was able to sit closer or get clear sooner she probably wins.

"It was as strong a run you‘d like to see from her heading towards the Oaks."

A brilliant speed horse that won the Group I MRC Blue Diamond and MVRC Moir Stakes, Extreme Choice does not on face value appeal as a sire of stayers, however as with his own champion sire Not a Single Doubt and grand-sire Redoute’s Choice it will not surprise to see him get high class 2000m winners and Classic winners.

Class carries you a long way in these races for three year-olds and that is something Extreme Choice does pass on in spades.

She’s Extreme is from stakes-placed Keysbrook, who won up to 2100m and was second in the Group II West Australian Derby and third in the Group III WATC WA Oaks chasing home Champion 3YO Filly Delicacy on both occasions.

Her second dam is by Epsom Derby winner Quest for Fame (GB), who left a VRC Oaks winner in Tributes, so if you were wondering about the pedigree chances of She’s Extreme getting a staying trip, you can probably tick that box.
