Cummings Homebred a New SW for Choisir

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 22

Anthony Cummings had his owner/ breeder hat on as well as being a trainer when talented Choisir gelding Kote led all the way to win the Listed ATC Sir Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Kote broke his maiden on September 7 at Canterbury and then won a Midway handicap two starts later before stepping up to Black Type for this assignment.

He started favourite and made light work of the task scoring by a length and a half to take his overall record to three wins from nine starts with prizemoney topping $250,000.

“I’m pretty happy, I bred the horse and have his Mum at home and it’s a great start to get a stakes-winner at just her third foal,” said Anthony Cummings, who thinks Kote will be even better on firmer ground.

Kote runs for an owner partnership that includes his trainer and Trilogy Racing as well as other partners.

Kote is a half-brother to handy Sydney metro winner Caesars Palace, who is also trained by Cummings and has won over $300,000.

He is the second winner from unraced Iffraaj (GB) mare Soffraaj, a daughter of Group III placed Soelin from the family of Group I New Zealand Oaks winner Savaria.

Soffraaj has been back to Coolmore in recent years and has a yearling colt by Magna Grecia (IRE) and is has foaled to him again this spring producing a colt.

Kote is from the second last crop of foals by much missed Coolmore favourite Choisir, who passed away last year and is his 104th stakes-winner.
