Greg Polson previews Dubbo Monday July 31

Greg Polson - Monday July 31

There are no certainties in racing from the time the barriers open until the Stewards declare correct weight but there are a few certainties from a punting perspective and one of those is that if punters continue to take under the odds about a horse's chance they will finish broke and surely a Greg Ryan ride at Dubbo on Monday is way under the odds.

Corporate Bookies are asking punters to take $2.35 in early betting for the Jan Bowen-trained Torio's Delight in the Kennards Hire Solutions Class 1 Handicap (1440m) with Greg Ryan in the saddle.

The price has to be gross unders when the form for Torio's Delight is analysed.

One career win from 19-starts is the first red flag, sure he is down in grade on his last run finishing second in a class two at Scone and a number of his starts have been in higher grade but the fact remains he hasn't been able to win in six class one starts.

Torio's Delight goes to 1440m for the first time after contesting an 1100m race at Scone.

Torio's Delight record at distances longer than 1200m doesn't instil confidence, three starts finishing out of the placings and a combined losing margin over 13-lengths.

Torio's Delight might be looking for the step up in distance at this stage of his career but that is somewhat speculation, $2.35 to find out if he is – no way, $5.50 maybe.

As I continue to point out in these articles, I am not saying that Torio's Delight cannot win the race, I am saying that punters should be looking for substantially longer odds before considering an investment on the four-year-old.

Remember a losing bet avoided is the same as backing an even money winner.
