Widden Purchase G1 Golden Rose Winner Jacquinot

Media Release - Thursday October 13

Widden Stud are thrilled to announce the acquisition of Group I ATC Golden Rose winner Jacquinot, who will start in the $15million Everest against the best sprinters in the world at Randwick on Saturday.

Placed in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes at two, the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr trained son of Rubick has taken the quantum leap this spring.

He scored a dominant win in the Group III MRC HDF McNeil Stakes (1200m) beating highly rated Aft Cabin, before his memorable late charging victory over glamour filly In Secret in the $1million ATC Golden Rose (1400m).

Jacquinot will run for his existing ownership group in the Everest on Saturday and going forward will carry the colours of Sheikh Fahad’s Qatar Racing for a new ownership syndicate headed by Widden Stud, the deal brokered by James Harron Bloodstock..

“He’s from the Encosta de Lago sireline that has been very successful for us through Northern Meteor and his champion son Zoustar, so we see Jacquinot as a perfect fit for Widden Stud,” said Antony Thompson.

“He was precocious enough to win on debut as a two year-old at Caulfield before Christmas and has done nothing but improve ever since.

“His Blue Diamond run was exceptional and the improvement he has taken into his three year-old season has put Jacquinot at the very top of the sprinting colts division.”

Jacquinot has a very similar race and pedigree profile to Zoustar, who won the Golden Rose in 2013 before going on to further Group I success. He is currently the leading sire in Australia by earnings and is standing at a fee of $198,000 at Widden this spring.

Combining the blood of champion sires Encosta de Lago and Redoute’s Choice, with Golden Slipper winner Pierro another powerful influence in his pedigree, Jacquinot was bred and retained to race by Lindsay Maxted.

“We are delighted that Widden has joined us in the ongoing ownership of our exciting three year old colt,” Lindsay Maxsted commented on behalf of his current owners.

“It will be a pleasure to race Jacquinot alongside them and moreover he is going to a wonderful home at the conclusion of his racing career.”

Jacquinot has so many lucrative racing options ahead of him and the intention is for this exciting young sprinter to remain in training with Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr for the immediate future.

He will complete his three year-old season and may race on at four with the lure of the $10million Golden Eagle on the horizon and a possible second crack at the $15m The Everest in 2023.
