Spirit Of Boom Filly Miss Coota Spaces Them On Debut

Mark Smith - Sunday October 9

A great start to the day for the Nolan family at Eagle Farm on Saturday, when the Raheen Stud bred Spirit Of Boom filly, Miss Coota blitzed her rivals in the Widden Stud  Basil Nolan Jnr QTIS 2YO Fillies Plate.

Featured on Breedent among the star trialers, the Chris Munce-trained Miss Coota scrambled out of the barriers but once balanced up by Justin Huxtable, it was going to be a matter of how far.

That proved to be seven and a half lengths with the first crop Encyptian filly Keyboard second with a further two and a half lengths back to the Performer filly Mishani Star.

“It was all a bit new to her, and she did a few things wrong, which I wasn’t expecting, but she’s just a natural racehorse and was far too good for them,” Munce said.

“We’ll see how she pulls up before deciding where we go next with her, but we might give her one more run before we back off her with a view to the Magic Millions in January. We’ve still got time up our sleeves, so I won’t be rushing her.”

Munce acknowledged the significance of the race to the Nolan family.

“Basil’s always been a great studmaster, and his horses have always presented well and are tough and genuine, so it was nice to win a race named after Basil Junior,” he said.

Miss Coota’s owners Gerald and Debbie O’Toole, bought the daughter of Spirit Of Boom in conjunction with Arthur Hoyeau for $140,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
