Written Tycoon Quinella in Northwood Plume

Mark Smith - Saturday October 8

It was a Written Tycoon quinella to round out a magnificent card at Caulfield, with Literary Magnate edging out Written Beauty in the Group III Senet Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m).

With comeback jockey Dean Yendall in the saddle for Warrnambool-based trainer Matthew Williams, Literary Magnate defeated Written Beauty by a long neck with the 4yo Dissident mare Decent Raine a nose back in third.

It was a maiden stakes success for Literary Magnate advancing her record to two wins, three seconds, and three thirds from 11 starts with earnings of $466,500.

Stable representative Tyler Duynhoven said the 4yo daughter of Written Tycoon deserved a little luck.

“This girl has been super. She’s been a little bit unlucky previously and sort of knocking on the door, and we’ve got a high opinion of her and very happy to see her get it done,” Duynhoven said.

“We had her pretty well ready to go. She only had one trial coming in just because the tracks were so wet, but we’d done the most work we could on the galloping and she was ready to go.

“We’ll leave that (where she goes next) up to the boss, but there should be a few good mares races around for her.”

Bred by Wallings Bloodstock, Literary Magnate was a $135,00 purchase for MW Racing / Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) from the Tyreel Stud draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

She is the best of four winners from as many to race out of the stakes-placed Fastnet Rock mare Family Crest.

Literary Magnate a $135,000 Inglis Classic yearling

A granddaughter of the Group 1 Western Australian Oaks winner True Devotion (Beau Sovereign), Family Crest was a $150,000 purchase for Pinhook Bloodstock at the 2021 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

Her Hellbent colt failed to make his $200,000 reserve when offered by Newgate Farm at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Flying Crest has a yearling colt by Brutal and was covered by Flying Artie last spring.

With her valuable Group III prize, Literary Magnate becomes the 52nd stakes-winner for Yulong Stud’s Written Tycoon.
