First Runner a Winner for Brave Smash

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 8

Aquis Farm’s brilliant Japanese bred multiple Group I winning sprinter Brave Smash (Jpn) became the first of the new season sires to post a winner when his first runner Brave Halo returned a winner at Ascot in Perth on Saturday.

Trained by Sean and Jake Casey, two year-old colt Brave Halo stalked the hot favourite Live to Tell and challenged her all the way  up the straight, gaining an edge at the finish to win the $80,000 WATC Initial Plate (1000m) by a head.

“He’s a very nuggety little horse, very well put together and very well mannered,” Casey said.

“We nearly gelded him six weeks ago, but he really picked up his game.

“He’s been an absolute gem and could be an exciting horse because of his composure.

“He’s just really easy to work with.”

Brave Halo was a $135,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase.

Brave Halo was a $135,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase from the Willow Park draft for Hancock Quality Bloodstock and was bred by Aquis Farm, who stand his sire Brave Smash.
