One to Watch – Mildura

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 4

Rosemont Stud’s Shamus Award has shot to fame as a sire of serious stayers and classic horses with an impressive maiden winner at Mildura on Tuesday looking a likely contender for the future.

Three year-old Distrustful Award was a hot favourite for the 2000m maiden and the Paul Preusker trained gelding did not disappoint.

Third on debut early last month, Distrustful Award was a last start fourth on heavy ground behind the now Victoria Derby favourite Mr Maestro in the VRC Derby Preview at Flemington over 1800m.

He relished the additional 200m of this assignment to power clear for an easy three length victory and connections will no doubt be considering an entry for the Victoria Derby.

A homebred for Sean Buckley’s Ultra Thoroughbreds, Distrustful Award races in the same colours carried by his sire Shamus Award.

He is the first foal of unraced Trusting mare Distrustful and his fourth dam is blue hen Lady Capel, the dam of Group I winner Casino Prince and grand-dam of Group I winner Prince Fawaz and Group II winner Best of Bordeaux.
