Russian Winner Shows Promise

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 3

Newgate Farm’s Russian Revolution had three new stakes horses on Saturday and sired a new metro winner on Monday when well bred colt Insurrection scored at Warwick Farm.

The Michael Freedman trained Insurrection was sent out favourite for the 1100m Benchmark 68 event and ended a frustrating run of minor placings with a dominant length and three-quarter win.

“He’s a work in progress, we took our time to find the front and he relaxed really well,” said winning rider Tommy Berry.

“He’s maturing every time he steps out, once he puts it altogether I think he’ll have no problem making Saturday grade.”

A $150,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Ascot Park draft for Darby Racing / Will Johnson Bloodstock, Insurrection was bred by Bob Hannon and is the first winner for Marple Miss, a metro winning three-quarter sister to Cox Plate winning Group I sire Shamus Award.

Marple Miss has foaled this spring producing a colt by Hellbent.
