Dashing Legend has got the Hang of Winning

Mark Smith - Wednesday September 21

After taking five starts to break her maiden, the Snitzel filly Dashing Legend made it back-to-back wins with a fighting win over 1250m at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Ridden by Willie Pike for Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes, Dashing Legend staged a length of the straight duel with the stubborn Insurrection (Russian Revolution) to prevail by a head with a further one and a half lengths back to Cinderella Days (Astern) in third.

After finishing second to Conqueror on debut at Randwick-Kensington in February, Dashing Legend beat all bar Seven Veils in the Group II Reisling Stakes at Randwick in March.

She broke through for a maiden win at Hawkesbury on September 8.

A $380,000 buy for Bon Ho from the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Dashing Legend advances her record to two wins, two seconds, and a third from six starts with earnings of $140,525.

"It was a good win as she was made to work early," Michael Hawkes said.

"She's a Group placegetter, and we are trying to put the score on the board for Mr Ho.

"She's a fighter and wants to win, and she has a lot of upsides."

Bred by Arrowfield Group Pty Ltd and Katsumi Yoshida's Jungle Pocket Pty Ltd, Dashing Legend is a sister to the Listed stakes winner Bend The Knee out of the Listed MRC William Crockett Stakes, Kneeling (Encosta De Lago).

A half-sister to the outstanding Hong Kong performer Winner's Way (Starcraft) and Listed Ortensia Stakes winner That's a Good Idea (Flying Spur), Kneeling was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for $800,000 off Yarraman Park at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Andrew Williams Bloodstock (FBAA) / Bevan Smith Bloodstock went to $220,000 for Kneeling's filly by The Autumn Sun at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Not served in 2020, Kneeling visited Maurice (JPN) last spring.
