Deep Field Colt Fastest - Seymour Ready2Race breeze up videos NOW ONLINE

Media Release - Monday September 12

Video footage of Friday’s Seymour breeze ups – a crucial lead-up to the Inglis Ready2Race Sale on October 11 – is now available for viewing on the Inglis website.

In a tantalising display of the strength of this year’s Ready2Race catalogue, 59 of the 78 2YOs to breeze at Seymour clocked a time less than 11 seconds for their 200m gallop.

The fastest was a Deep Field x Alderney colt (lot 110), which stopped the clock at an electric 10.1 seconds.

Purchased by Tal Nolen for $120,000 at this year’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands from Lauralyn Farm, the colt (pictured) will be presented as part of Nolen’s eight-strong draft at the Ready2Race Sale.

“He’s a really good horse I think, the sire is doing a great job in Hong Kong, I wouldn’t be surprised if this colt is a Hong Kong horse himself, he’s doing everything right so far and has a very good attitude,” Nolen said.

The colt was one of eight 2YOs of Tal Nolen’s, all of which recorded sub 11 seconds and ridden by jockey Jake Duffy.

“I am very happy with how the entire draft went today, I’m a huge fan of the Written By x Family Reunion colt (lot 173), unfortunately he was a little shin sore today but he breezed up in 10.41.

“One that surprised us a bit was the U S Navy Flag x Gotta be Gold colt (lot 186), the second fastest from our draft and the third fastest of the day (10.2).

“I paid $50,000 for him from the Inglis Premier Sale, I liked a couple of yearlings by that sire at Premier and was happy to go home with him, he looks to like a fast, precocious type.”

“I also really like the Justify x Whistle Baby (lot 97), the penny hasn’t dropped with him yet, he’s too laidback, he reminds me of (multiple G2 winner and G1 placegetter) Lightsaber.”

The second-fastest breeze came from Shaun Nolen’s JCS Thoroughbreds draft, with a Per Incanto x Manon colt (lot 247) ridden by Jake Duffy, clocking 10.2 seconds.

“We had a fairly good result today, truth be told,” Shaun Nolen said.

“The Per Incanto is a nice colt, a pretty progressive sort of horse, more of a 3YO miler type.

“We have a few horses like that with good scope this year, not all out-and-out sprinters, we’ve tried to cover all bases for all buyers with the draft this year.

“We generally train these colts to teach them to gallop and then keep them happy, and there’s always improvement in them.

“Most of the horses have done about three preparations, so education wise they’re a long way ahead of yearlings coming straight after a sale, so it’s a great initiative.”

Jockeys Luke Nolen and Jake Duffy shared riding duties between them for the Nolen Racing and JCS Thoroughbreds draft, with Duffy aboard the two quickest gallops of the day.

“The Deep Field out of Alderney ran the quickest time of the morning, very professional horse, it’s half sister won in town the other day for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott… he showed that he’s got good speed and a massive stride,” Duffy said.

“The Per Incanto is a big striding horse… I rode a lot of really nice horses, obviously too many to name but nonetheless both drafts had very professional horses… they made my job easy.”

Champion jockey Jamie Kah also returned to the Seymour breeze ups to ride for Sullivan Bloodstock.

“It’s my third year riding at the breeze ups, it’s a lot of fun actually and I was blessed with some good rides today [including] a really nice Merchant Navy colt (lot 77), he really looked after me out there and felt like a smart colt,” Kah said.

“I remember riding Lightsaber, he’s a beautiful colt and he came from this (sale)… I think it’s (Ready2Race) a really good concept because it gets horses up and going early, not putting too much pressure on them, we get to have a sit on them early and follow their careers all the way through.”
