Pedigree Watch – Stakes Double for Dubawi

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 8

Darley’s champion sire Dubawi has two champion sons in Australia this spring and he added two new stakes-winners to his tally overnight.

Dubawi has had an amazing year siring a whopping 38 stakes-winners so far in 2022, that’s 10 more than Frankel, who is on 28.

The Group II Coral Park Fillies Stakes (1m6 ½ f) at Doncaster was own in style by the George Strawbridge homebred filly Mimikyu.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden and ridden by Frankie Dettori, Mimikyu powered clear to win by nearly three lengths and has the overall record of three wins and a second from six starts.

“At York it went wrong for Mimikyu. We thought she'd win the Galtres and unfortunately she got stacked wide and pulled very hard. We popped the hood on here and she relaxed well and beat a very good filly. It wasn't a fluke. She's in the Prix de Royallieu or she could go for the Group 1 on Champions Day that her sister Journey won,” said John Gosden.

Mimikyu is a full sister to Group I winner Journey and Group II winner Indigo Girl from top producing Group I winning Montjeu mare Montare.

The Group III Prix des Chenes (1600m) at Longchamp went to two year-old Dubawi colt Kubrick, a homebred for White Birch Farm trained by Jean-Claude Rouget.

Kubrick scored by a neck and has two wins and a second from three starts.

Kubrick is a half-brother to triple Group I winner Raging Bull and is the second stakes-winner among three winners from stakes-placed Rosa Bonheur.

Kubrick and Mimikyu are the 241st and the 242nd stakes-winners for Dubawi, whose sons Too Darn Hot (GB) and Ghaiyyath (IRE) stand in Australia this spring for Darley in NSW and Victoria.
