A Point to Prove

It’s not that easy to find a proven sire of winners priced under $10,000 in the Hunter Valley this spring, but this well bred son of Fastnet Rock has had a fruitful start to the new season and looks exceptional value at a fee of $6,600.

With his oldest progeny just turned five, Kingstar Farm’s Bull Point has enjoyed a winning run in recent weeks producing seven winners from 18 runners in Australia since the start of the season headed by his promising stayer Raging Bull.

Competitive in the Group I ATC Australian Derby during the autumn following a fourth in the Group I VRC Victoria Derby in the spring, the David Payne trained Raging Bull won impressively at Rosehill on August 13 and was fourth last Saturday at Randwick in the Listed Tattersalls Club Cup.

The four year-old gelding has already won over $300,000 and will be worth following as his spring campaign unfolds with further Black Type races on his agenda.

Country trainer Stirling Osland has become a fan of Bull Point having enjoyed great success with two of his offspring in Point Counterpoint and Golden Point.

Point Counterpoint has made great progress since joining the stable after starting  his career in Victoria. He broke his maiden at Armidale in February last year and has made a rapid rise through his grades winning a Highway event in November last year.

On Monday, he upped the ante winning the $55,000 Moree Cup (1400m) at Tamworth and is eligible for the $2million Big Dance in November.

With five wins and five placings from 19 starts, Point Counterpoint has already won over $174,000 in prizemoney.

Progressive sprinter Golden Point was also started in Victoria before finding his way to Stirling Osland and has blossomed under his care.

He was a dominant winner over 1200m at Tamworth last Monday when resuming from a spell having ended his previous preparation in February with a significant Highway race win when he defeated subsequent Group I winner Shelby Sixtysix.

With five wins and three placings from 12 starts, Golden Point has already won nearly $140,000 and connections are hopeful of a start in the $2million Kosciuszko (1200m) on October 15.

"There are a lot of similarities between them, they're both by Bull Point who I have had a lot of success with for Matthew Sandblom, they've both come to me as tried horses and neither have put a hoof wrong since entering the stable,” said Stirling Osland of Trident Racing.

"Golden Point is a genuine Kosciusko contender whilst we might consider dancing on the first Tuesday in November with Point Counterpoint.

“He's already eligible for the Big Dance and with the Little Dance as a backup we'll keep some speed in his legs and keep those options open.

"Golden Point might head to Warwick Farm midweek and I'll have a chat to Matthew (Sandblom) about our options with Point Counterpoint."

Bull Point stands at Kingstar Farm at a fee of $6,600.

The future is bright for Bull Point with his biggest foal crop conceived in 2019 now new season two-year-olds set to sow the seeds of future success.

From his first small three crops to race, Bull Point has had 38 winners from 70 runners highlighted by Macau Derby winner Bygone Era and stakes-placed juvenile Encountabull as well as good metro winners such as Morty and Brazen Bully as well as Readily Availabull, winner of the $250,000 Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Clockwise Classic.

A good looking son of champion sire Fastnet Rock, Bull Point topped the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in 2012 and passes on his strength, speed and athleticism to his progeny at a value fee.
