One to Watch – Sale

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 1

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have already won an Australian Group I classic with champion Japanese sire  Deep Impact training Glint of Hope to win the Australasian Oaks and they have similar aspirations for a colt by the same sire that won on debut at Sale on Thursday.

Muramasa was well fancied in the 1427m maiden and unleashed a powerful finishing burst, charging home from back in the field to score an eye-catching head win with Daniel Moor in the saddle.

Entered for the Caulfield Guineas, Muramasa is held in high regard by  the stable.

“He was always going to be strong late and he will get even better the further he goes,” said Natalie Young.

“It’s early days, but we’ve always thought quite a lot of him so if he can get to a Guineas or a Derby as he’ll have that sport of prep, but we’ll just see.

“We paid a little bit for him at Easter, although not as much as I thought we would, so it’s nice he’s kicked off today and got that win under his belt.”

Muramasa was a $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Arrowfield draft for Busuttin Racing, Muramasa is the first foal from Group II ATC Silver Shadow Stakes winner Omei Sword, a fast daughter of High Chaparral (IRE) that was also placed in a Golden Rose.

Omei Sword was a $1.7million Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale purchase in 2018 and is bred in the purple being from Fastnet Rock’s Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights, so there will be a lot of interest in the progress of Muramasa.

Arrowfield sold an I Am Invincible filly from Omei Sword at Inglis Easter this year to Kia Ora Stud for $800,000 and she has a colt to follow by the same sire. Omei Sword is due to foal to Snitzel this spring.

Deep Impact died in 2019 and the champion son of Sunday Silence has a great record in Australia with 28 winners from 44 starters highlighted  by five stakes-winners that are all Group I winners including Profondo, who will contest the Group II ATC Tramway Stakes on Saturday.
