Our Sydney form man Greg Polson has given a barrier trial punting lesson with this week's blackbook tip.

All you have to do is use Racenet's free blackbook service and we will email you when any of these horses are due to race.

Did you back something which was a good thing beaten? Or maybe just turned in an eye-catching run?

Come on, share it with the rest of us, through the 'comments' section below.

RANDWICK – Greg Polson

CORTESTA – Going with one out of left field this week – the Gary Portelli-trained Cortesta. I admit to having something on the filly to win the Gimcrack at $51 based on her trial win at Warwick Farm on September 8 but she was never in the race after going back to last as a result of a double-digit barrier draw. Cortesta worked home well recording the quickest 600m-200m sectional of the race. Although you won’t find it in a form analysis text book I use a benchmark figure for trials of 17 metres per second which allows me to compare the times across different distances and tracks. Cortesta ran her trial in 46.40 seconds which equates to 17.24 mps, enough to get me interested. The trial held up well in the Gimcrack with the third horse from the trial Setsuna finishing second and the runner-up from the trial finishing fourth. Cortesta raced on the speed in the trial and if she draws a barrier next start is likely to be much closer in the run and likely to be at decent odds. There is a win or two in her for sure. Career statistics (1:0-0-0).

CAULFIELD – Cameron Happ

ODEON – He was disappointing first-up, only hitting the line fair over 1400 metres behind Theanswermyfriend but he turned that around on Sunday at Caulfield stepping out to 1700 metres. He raced closer, sitting three deep with cover midfield before improving out five deep on the turn. He fought on well to around the 100-metre mark where he peaked on his run, indicating he’s still got good fitness improvement to come. Placed in the South Australian Derby at his last run before a spell so he’ll only keep improving as he rises in trip. He looks an ideal horse for some of the rich country cups where he’ll avoid bumping into any top liners. In the right races he can pick up a couple of races over the spring. Career statistics (14:4-2-1).

SUNSHINE COAST – Graeme Carey

ZAHSPEED – He put in a cracking performance when having his first Queensland start for Toby Edmonds. Formerly with Danny O’Brien, his best form is at a mile and beyond but the 1200m in a Benchmark 75 didn’t bother him. He bounced out from the wide gate leading clearly to the home turn and was well clear into the straight. It took a good sprinter in Helarocity to run him down in the shadows of the post and he will gain significantly in fitness. The trainer has an excellent record with horses transferred from southern states and this one looks more than capable especially when he steps up in trip. Career statistics (28:6-3-2).

MORPHETTVILLE – Heath Pope

INVISIBLE GIRL  – Lloyd Kennewell-trained mare that is going better than her two runs this preparation indicate on paper. She hasn’t enjoyed the best of fortunes this time in, firstly not appreciating the soft conditions then conceding her rivals too much start before rattling off some big final sectionals when charging into fourth, running only a .06 second slower final 200m than open class winner Lope de Capio. She produced a career best rating when scoring strong win in only third-up performance, so I suspect she is ready to win. Career statistics (8:2-0-0).

BELMONT – Aaron Mills

WAR JEUNE – As consistent as they come and looks capable of returning to the winners' circle sooner rather than later after a strong first-up performance. Setting just off midfield as in-form rival Floyd made all the running, War Jeune stoked up strongly in the straight to get within half a length on the line. Looks effective anywhere up to 1500 metres and with the versatility to go forward or back depending on the pattern this Steve Wolfe-trained gelding should prove a reliable betting proposition as we head into the warmer months. Career record (12:4-3-3).
