Pedigree Watch – UK- Can Frankel Mare Win Arc?

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 18

Group I racing continued at York overnight with the Group I Darley Yorkshire Oaks (1m4f) won by outstanding Frankel mare Alpinista, whose next stop is likely to be the Arc.

A homebred for Kirsten Rausings’ Lanwades Stud, five year-old Alpinista is trained by Sir Mark Prescott and was a triple Group I winner in Germany last year.

She has enjoyed a steady rise through her career as a maiden winner at two, a Group I placed Listed winner at three before going undefeated since the start of last season winning all five starts in 2021 and her two runs this year.

Alpinista proved too good for Epsom Oaks winner Tuesday forging clear to win by a length and has now win five Group I races..

“Alpinista won't go for the Vermeille, I think she'll go straight to the Arc. She's just good enough to go close. You've got a chance, therefore you must go. She's a marvellous filly and she's improved all the time,” said Sir Mark Prescott.

“Her great gift is that she's straightforward. She's not worrying, she's not boiling over, she's not off her grub, she's not lame. She's improved every race and I think her success is because she's straightforward, she goes on more or less any ground, you can hold her up and make the running. It's like people, if they're very straightforward it's amazing what you can do.”

Alpinista is the first winner for stakes-winning Hernando mare Alwilda, a daughter of triple Group I winner Albonova.

Alwilda is a half-sister to Group III winner Algometer and stakes-winner All At Sea, the dam of this year’s Royal Ascot Group II Queen’s Vase winner Eldar Eldarov.

This female family has been carefully nurtured at Lanwades Stud over four generations delivering countless stakes-winners.

The Group II Lowther Stakes (6f) for two year-old fillies was won by the 25-1 shot Swingalong, a speedy Showcasing filly trained by Karl Burke.

With two wins from four starts, Swingalong heads next to the Group I Cheveley Park Stakes.

A 120,000 guinea purchase for Blandford Bloodstock from Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2, she runs for Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum.

The 61st stakes-winner for former NZ shuttler Showcasing, Swingalong is the best of three winners from winning Shamardal mare Pilates, a half-sister to stakes-winner Knavesmire.

The Listed Galtres Stakes (1m4f) was won by promising filly Haskoy, a Juddmonte Farms homebred by Epsom Derby winner Golden Horn, who was recently sold by Darley and will stand at Overbury Stud going forward marketed towards national hunt racing as well as flat.

Trained by Ralph Beckett and ridden by Ryan Moore, Haskoy scored by a neck over another Juddmonte homebred Frankel filly Time Lock and has now won two from two.

Haskoy is the first foal from stakes-winning Nathaniel mare Natavia, a half-sister to Group I winner Spinning Queen. She is the 12th stakes-winner for Golden Horn and the second for Nathaniel as a broodmare sire.
