Guineas Contenders Running Today

Tara Madgwick - Monday August 15

The release of entries for the Group I Caulfield Guineas and Thousand Guineas has added plenty of interest to competitive maiden events which are often the first stepping off point for potential contenders, so let’s take a look at the runners today that hold entries.

Racing at Wyong and Donald offer some interest with the fillies and mares maiden at Wyong a watch race with blue-blood Russian Revolution filly Miss Faberge looking to break the ice after some good efforts in stakes races last season.

As a half-sister to Group I winners Criterion and Comin’ Through as well as Group II winner Varenna Miss and stakes-winner Silently, Miss Faberge has bit of pressure on her to uphold the family reputation being a daughter of blue hen Mica’sPride.

She’s the last foal from Mica’s Pride , who has had 12 foals to race and all have won bar Miss Faberge, who will hopefully change that today.

Crystalane was a $475,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

Also in the market is blue-blood Snitzel filly Crystalane, who has shown potential at the trials. She’s a sister to Group I placed Meritable and sister-in-blood to stakes-winner Meuse from the Monsoon Wedding branch of the celebrated Shantha’s Choice family.
