Sire On Fire - a Pakenham Double for Rubick

Mark Smith - Monday August 15

Swettenham Stud's Rubick has been on fire of late, and he backed up his six winners around Australia on Saturday with a pair of promising three-year-olds at Pakenham on Monday.

The John Sadler-trained-gelding Fairy Spirit started the ball rolling with a three-quarter length romp over 1600m at start three.

Then Phillip Stokes-trained filly Take On Jen showed her debut second to Giga Kick was no fluke when storming home under Zac Spain to open her account over 11000m.

Ridden along early to take advantage of her inside barrier, Take On Jen eased out three deep on straightening to overpower another Dalziel Bloodstock colour bearer, Our Valley Star (Zoustar), by one and three-quarter lengths with Little Strawberry (Street Boss) a further length back in third.

"All she had to do was hold up that Sale run, especially what that horse (Giga Kick) did on Saturday," Spain said.

"It was good to see her knock the maiden off. She jumped and travelled well, but I would have put her out of her comfort zone if I tried to ride up to the box seat.

"I had to take my medicine and let her travel where she was.

"We had a beautiful run throughout. When she hit the front, she had  little look around, but she won very well.

"I think with time; she will get a little further. She is lovely and relaxed and does everything right."

Take On Jen a $100,000 Magic Millions yearling

A $100,000 purchase for Dalziel Bloodstock/Phillip Stokes Racing from the Element Hill draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Take On Jen is the fourth winner from five to race out of the unraced Redoute's Choice mare In The Future.

A half-sister to Group II Silver Slipper winner and successful sire Domesday out of a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner Xaar, In The Future died in 2020 and Take On Jen is her final foal.
